"I was honoured to be chosen to design this shirt! As a citizen of the Metis nation, artist, and STJ alumna, I wanted to make sure the design was well thought out and meaningful. The process of coming up with the concept was challenging, as I wanted to highlight and honour Indigenous culture, but also acknowledge the hardships that led to truth and reconciliation as a movement. I chose the dreamcatcher to represent protection, and the handprint of a child to represent the many victims, whose lives were uprooted, destroyed, and taken far too young. As a pair, they represent us all; Treaty People, regardless of race or background, choosing truth and reconciliation everyday, and taking the steps to protect, heal, and rectify our relationship with one another.” -Elizabeth Leuschen”
